What is Parkour and Freerunning?
Hello, I'm Derek and I am here to talk to you about parkour and freerunning. A lot of you right now are wondering what parkour and freerunning are. I will get to that in a second. First, I want to tell you a little about myself. I have to write a blog for a school project. I am going to be working on the project for 2-3 weeks. I will be posting about 7 posts talking about different topics. Some of the topics will be Different moves for parkour and freerunning, how to do different moves, the history of parkour, and what things you can do to help yourself be in better shape to do parkour. I decided to write about parkour and freerunning because it is the one thing that I do that other people find interesting and it is different than other sports. I am qualified to talk about this topic because I have been doing parkour and freerunning for 2 years. Also, I know quite a lot about the origin of parkour and who invented it. I am not going to talk about the history of it in this post. In this post I will be talking about what parkour and freerunning are and some common questions people may have about it. I will talk about parkour first. Parkour is trying to get from one place to another as quickly and efficiently as possible. Freerunning is a more flashy and show off version of parkour. Parkour mainly consists of vaults, wall runs, jumps, and rolls. Freerunning consists of flips, wall tricks, and other stunts. An example of the difference between them is if there was a block they had to get over, the traceur (one who does parkour) would vault over it, while the freerunner would jump on top and flip or some other crazy stunt. One of the common freerunning tricks is a front flip. You can do front flips on the ground or off of an object. A Picture of myself doing a front flip is directly to the right. Another freerunning move is called a wall spin. A wall spin is spinning yourself vertically along a wall. A picture of me doing a wall spin is below. Some of you may be wondering what a vault is. A vault is propelling yourself over an object mainly using your hands. Now pakour is not exactly a sport. The technical term is that it is an art. There is no league for parkour and freerunning. There are contests for it though. For instance there is the World Freerunning Championship. The freerunners have a set amount of time to impress the judges on a course by doing flips and other stunts. Well I hope I answered most of the questions you might have had about parkour and freerunning. If you have any other questions about it leave them in the comment section below. My next topic will be about the history of parkour. Thank you for reading and see you later.
